Model right

With a design registration, the holder (owner) gets a right to exploit (use) a model for a certain period. A monopoly over a certain period of time (25 years with a European model). A model can also be registered abroad.

A model is the external appearance of a product. Think of the shape of a product (product form) or the appearance of a product (design).

Examples:

The appearance of a coffee machine

The shape of a sports car or a part of a car.

After a successful application you will receive a registration certificate with which the model is registered in the model register. The model is then protected for five years and can be extended with proportional periods of five years to a maximum protection period of 25 years.

A model registration is different from a patent.
